Chimney lining

Chimney lining in Gerrards Cross, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood and the Chalfonts

Following a survey of your property, it may the case that your existing chimney needs to be lined. Generally chimney flues in house built before 1965 had no lining. Flues were usually rendered on the inside and, after a period of time, the render will deteriorate with exposure to the corrosive flue gasses and rain from the top. Chimneys in houses built after 1965 may be lined with section clay linings but this type of lining is not always suitable for an efficient solid fuel stove.

There are many reasons why a chimney flue may need lining which can be summarized as the following:

  • In a poorly constructed chimneys smoke and fumes can leak to other rooms or parts of the building
  • When the existing flue is on the outside wall of the building and is not drawing properly
  • Condensation or tar seeping through the walls causing staining on the inside or outside walls
  • The flue is much too large for the type of appliance being used resulting in poor draw or condensation
  • A liner allows for a safer exhaustion of gasses which produces a safer and more efficient heating appliance
  • It is always good practice to line a chimney when fitting a stove

At Armstrong Chimneys we line existing chimneys with only the best twin wall flexible 904 grade liners, with a 20 year guarantee.
